Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and young
adults in the United States. Today, there
is no cure. Although a series of medical
advances are bringing the scientific community
closer to conquering this terminal respiratory
illness, children with CF still struggle daily.
Most children with CF are on daily medications
and undergo daily physical therapy treatments
to clear mucous from the airways. More often
then not these children spend long periods of
time in the hospital receiving IV antibiotics to kill
the infections in their lungs. The median age for survival is 33.4 years.
