We are individuals, families, friends and a community whose lives have been directly and indirectly touched by the disease, Cystic Fibrosis. Our mission is simple; to honor the wishes and dreams of children living with CF. The Narberth Run was created to fulfill those dreams.
The Narberth Run began in 1995 as one of the events celebrating Narberth’s Centennial. What started as a run celebrating an anniversary quickly developed into a run celebrating life. In 1996 the Run was taken over by a Narberth resident whose family member lives with CF. While it started as a student project, the underlying purpose of the Run has always been to raise money to grant the wishes and dreams of children who live with Cystic Fibrosis.
Together with family and friends and the tireless efforts of a fellow Narberth family touched by CF, the Run has developed into an annual event, attracting between 600-700 runners each year. More than just a run, the day has grown into a celebration of a community coming together to support a wonderful cause. For the kids and families there is music, face painting, a moon bounce and a Kidz Fun Run.
At the end of the day there is an awards presentation at which time The John A. Nardi Jr. Memorial award is presented to the Top Male and Female Finishers. John Nardi fought a courageous battle against Cystic Fibrosis. This award is presented each year to honor his memory and courage. The runner’s names are inscribed on the plaque that is displayed in the Narberth Borough Hall.
Narberth has always been a community that has looked after its own, and the Run quickly captured the interest and support of many businesses, community organizations and personal contributors. Because of the generosity of so many people we have been able to accomplish our mission. Each year, with the advice of a group of doctors and a social worker at a local CF center, a child is recommended to us to have a Dream fulfilled. Since the Run’s inception we have been fortunate to fulfill many wishes including new computers, trips to Disney World, and family vacations. In return, we get to see the smiles, the letters and the pictures. This is our reward.
Please come out and join us …… and run for a child’s dream!
